i would not take the risk of an lcd screen for the transport
you also have to own it for 12 months or pay the tax

You need a receipt and another piece of paper from the seller which you produce at the airport for your refund 10% i think. Don't know on any of this apart from the tax, just been contemplating it myself.

They do use a different system over there which may mean that you will get either picture or sound only - however if you buy an australian freeview box or subscribe to foxtel (aussie sky) and connect it through scart then you will be fine - just the terrestrial channels through an aerial that maynot work. Tis true about the tax if you haveny had it for 12 months but if it were not in the original box then i cant see how that would be proven??

I was planning on buying one in Aus. Are they more expensive over there?

You would have to be totally off your head to turn up in singapore and go looking for a tv then check it into luggage hold... I'd be surprised if the airline would carry it without classing it as cargo. These are HUGE like 3-4feet high by 4feet wide in their boxes and weigh a ton. You'd be well into excess baggage immediately. Aside from the prospect of renting some sort of truckmobile to get it from the airport to your rental alongside your tons of other suitcases and stuff. The last one we bought here would only just fit in the back of our landcruiser wiht all the seats down !.
Secondly - Warranty - these things do go wrong occasionally - singaporean cheapo shop is not going to give you an international warranty.
Most newer tvs will work here in Aus. There is no problem with picture only with sound, this can be easily fixed with foxtel(sky)/or a settop box (which you need to get High-Def picture anyway (about 80bucks) ).
TVs are cheap here too just like UK. Dont bother running risk of shipping a 2,000 pound piece of fragile glass across the world - wait and buy one here.

Unfortunately people are having problems with a lot of the large screen tvs working over here at the moment, no matter where they are from. You might be interested in reading this

scaremongering. compared to the amount of TVs sold, this is a drop in the ocean.
