Default Do companies just use Brit tradesmen???

Hello,
Just wondering again about starting off in Oz.
I know you have to work for a while as tradesmans mates and that the companies who take you on as mates, know that you are qualified, but i'm wondering?
Has anyone come across companies that just use Brits as tradesmen until they get their licence, then lay them off and hire another Brit as a mate again because they can pay them less. It just seems the perfect scam for companies to exploit the situation and get tradesmen working for them for peanuts.

I've not heard of it either. If you work hard then they have no reason to get rid of you.

Most companies struggle to get trady's. The usual rip off is with apprentices. They do the shit work and are charged out at full tradies rates. Most states subsidise app's wages as well so the companies get app's for free in return for training and experience.

Generally speaking though there's a chronic shortage of trady's especially in the technical fields like plumbing, gas, electrical, welding etc. Mechanics are the worst paid and there's a fair bit of turnover with them.
