Do Brits still get pommed?
Do people who have moved to Australia from Britain still get to hear the boring old pommy-bastard rubbish? If so, how are you British expats coping with it?

Unless, of course, you're so obviously a bastard that people can't help pointing it out. |

Usually just "Pom" or "Pommy." "Pommy bastard" isn't so common these days.

Not really such an issue these days at least in a bad sense. Perhaps a little like what an Irish man is reported to have voiced back in the late sixties in England."Thank god they let in (coloured) immigrants into the country as now they(natives)are laying off us a bit" Australia is becoming a more diverse by the month, thankfully so,and unless one is possibly in a tough bogan, ocker, red neck, working enviroment, couldn't imagine it being an issue apart from jest during a sporting event, perhaps.

Re: Do Brits still get pommed?
If your worried about being called a Pom then don't immigrate to OZ. Some court declared its not a racist term so anyone is allowed to call you a Pom if they want to.

Re: Do Brits still get pommed?
I honestly dont understand what the difference is in being called a Pom or a Cockney or a Scouser or a Geordie.
Can someone please explain, besides the obvious geographical connotation. Scouser in particular sounds like a derogatory term, dont think I would ever say that to a Liverpool Lady. |
