Most aussies know why we need immigrants, to support australias ageing population, I would not be surprised if the age limit is dropped to under 35's, all australia needs is young workers who are likely to breed to support us. Sorry but its a fact. Most polls on immigration show at least 50% of aussies understand that. As long as they are going to work, we dont need more bludgers we have millions of our own. Interesting point tho, of the 100,000 jobs available, majority are in bush or rural areas where aussies dont want to go, the english immigrants dont either, I'd wonder what help this is then to the trade crisis the gov keeps claiming.??
I'd maintan any day tho poms and aussies dont mix that well, humour and attitudes are very different, most poms seek out other poms to socialise with. Poms are also a bit 'precious'. EG. Were building next to one he rings up all the time whining about dust, noise, even complained about us being on his boundary, which he had wrong The boys, (workers) have named him Prince Charles.
Or the other extreme, the ones who have to praise australia and aussies all the time, it comes across as crawling. The ones best accepted are the scotts and irish, baudy humour amuses the aussies, there not classed as poms, most are a bit rough like aussies, got the piss head thing right.

Don`t forget alot of Aussies are descended from English/Scots/Irish/Welsh. I think most Aussies are glad the British are immigrating. I am, that`s for sure.
I think we have a very similar soh. Yeah, some English are prescious and territorial but so are some Aussies.
So, bring `em on!

Most aussie couldnt give a damn where you come from.
I agree with Stormz, I think aussies & poms have similar SOH, with the poms having the slight edge on dryness. Ditto his comments on being precious, plenty of aussies like that too, although I have met some poms that astound me with how much they whinge!!

There are thoudands of australians in London and they all usualy stick together. The irish and scotts have a better sense of humour than the English????

i think it's all in the attitude of the pom also. i have pom friends here and they are always going on about how 'this and that' is better in england, and always go around wearing england football shirts, etc, etc. maybe some things are better in england, but they live in australia now, so embrace it and stop whinging. i won't go as far as supporting australia against england, but australia is my adopted country and i choose to live here, so i've done my best to integrate (hunted out aussie friends) and i've never had a problem.
