Diving near Brisbane and still able to work?
 

Hi

Anyone have any idea where would be good to live near Brisbane if you were a nurse and still be able to work and go diving? Husband is in Logistics/Transport.

Am aware already of this thing called 'Barrier Reef' was wanting more precise clues... :) .

The Barrier Reef is nowhere near Brisbane, the closest part of it is about 4 hrs drive away at Bundaberg.

Not quite sure of the meaning of your questions? If you mean is there anywhere that you can live & then go diving afterwork/whenever you get the whim, the answer is no. If you mean are there places close where you may be able to go on dive trips for the day on the weekend, then yes, plenty of those around Moreton Bay & outside the bay at wrecks & artificial reefs. You could live anywhere in Brisbane & do that.

We had already thought of Bundaberg as a friend moved there...but wasn't sure if you had to be that high up to get decent diving or if anything was available that was decent lower down nearer Brisbane as obviously more jobs near city. Would love to live near Barrier Reef but think that would be impractical on the job front.

Do you dive in Oz then...we are with Sub Aqua/Cmas over here and wondering if we will have to convert to Padi or an Australian equivilant over there.

Townsville might be a better bet, or Cairns. Nowhere near Brissie though.

I dive in WA. No one has ever wanted to see my PADI qualfications.

I live in Brisbane, I've been diving over at Moreton Island, which is about 30mins by fast boat. Not the best diving, but some artifical reefs, wrecks and drift dives to be had.

Apparently Byron Bay area isn't too bad either, which is about three hours away.

There is also two prodive shops in Brisbane, and one out at Redcliffe which are quite good.

Ive only ever dived once, in Fiji, dont think I could ever beat that, so Im not going to try :) . However Dagboy has his Padi, but hes not done much diving out here, too busy doing other things ;) .

it takes me less than 2 hours to drive from brissie to byron :-) and that's sticking at the speed limits!

I believe you, I've only done the drive once, two years ago, and three hours seemed about right.
Just looked it up on whereis though and it came back with this - I know these things overestimate, but I'm assuming your 2 hours is pretty much traffic free?? ;)

Cheers maties have had a look at the diving site and took your suggestions on board. Will probably end up like everyone else with no time to dive once the real world hits. Has to be better than being all trussed up in a dry suit though........ :) .

We did a fair amount of diving at Stradbrooke Island, only about an hour on the train, 10 minutes on the boat and 15 minutes on a bus (or something like that)...absolutely amazing though (and whilst your at it you would have to go to the Bowls club...food is dead cheap and amazing!!).

Just thought i would chip in with my two penneth.
