Default Dishwasher v Washing up!

Does anyone know the approximate cost (electricity wise)of running a dishwasher once a day? Many thanx

also - water conservation - what uses more - dishwasher once a day or wash up 3 times a day?

If you've got kids, go with them - they're a much cheaper option than a dishwasher, even when you pay them.

We're on very very limited rain water and I stopped using dishwasher for a while only to be informed that my dishwasher uses 19 litres of water and to do three lots of washing up, plus water changes is about 25 litres of water ... plus sometimes I can do one and half days load in the dishwasher!

So dishwasher's good for us!

We don't have a dishwasher yet and I've been wondering about the above: does it not smell if you have dirty dishes in the dishwasher for that length of time? And doesn't it attract cockroaches?

Our Bosch uses 13litres a go. About the same as a sink full of water.

Water issues aside.....

The Dishwasher is far preferable to having your hands (complete with 'Marigolds') in hot water when it's hot and sticky already

Well I don't have problem with cockroaches down here in SA (only seen 2 dead ones outside even) so can't comment on that and occasionally I know the kids milks been tipped in there but unless door left open don't say it's an issue for us ... plus to get into the sad gritty bit - I load breakfast, lunch, dinner - go to bed - load breakfast stuff ... so never really left for too long.

And I've a bosch so maybe it's even less water than I thought!

We bought a Fisher & Paykel Dishdrawer which although was expensive initially gives us a true half load option (and there's only 2 of us). Running 1 drawer once a day uses 9 litres of water a day and costs less that $20 per year.

Dishwasher costs less than running a husband and also quieter and dry quicker and less breakages.
