Discount Shops

Hi,

What are the Aus equivalents of UK discount shop chains such as Wilkinsons, Home Bargains, Poundstretcher, B&M etc?

Cheers,
Chrisall

And no ALDI in WA either? Why is that? They have them over east. I've just looked on the Aus ALDI website & the prices, especially for the offers easily beat Coles / Woolies / IGA.

Cheers,

The only 'cheaper' places are Big W, Target and K-mart etc..

Maybe a Pound shop type place is what Oz needs!

Chicken Feed is a chain of "bargain" shops. There are also a fair few "$2 shops" or equivalent that I've seen.

Re: Discount Shops

I'd say the Reject Shop is the closest to those UK chains (despite the name, they don't really deal in rejects, more the usual cheap chinese stuff). Plus there are usually pound (dollar) shops around, run by immigrants usually.

KMart deals in cheap stuff, with a department store mentality. BigW is similar, but usually more expensive. Target thinks it deals in quality...

Not in WA, though.

Reject Shop and Red Dot would be the cheapy stores here. We've also got a bunch of $2 shops here in the Northern 'burbs. Oh, and Crazy Clark's is good for cheap crap.

Probably not, but question was about Aus equivalents, not specific to particular states. Only question about WA was for Aldi.

Depending on what city you are in, there is Costco too! Large discount/bulk buy chain from america. Although it charges a $60 yearly membership to shop there. Worth it if you buy things in bulk

The OP is moving to WA which is why I posted that.

I'd say the closest we have to UK discount shops would be Crazy Clarks which have stores in most states.

Same as Costco - thousands of kilometres away from the supply chain.

Don't you mean - don't come here if you value cheap arse shopping habits?

I may come across as a bit Badgeish with my next comment, but if I was missing Matalan and Poundland then I think I'd kill myself.

And another one here:wave: Have to say the idea of having to go in TKMaxx brings me out in hives. I know I don't like shopping but that place is my idea absolute hell.

LOL, not quite that bad, I don't think anyone would miss Poundland, just don't like paying more than have to for essentials whilst burning through savings with AUDGBP < 1.5

Cheers,
Chrisall

Noticed an Everything $2 clothes shop in Pacific Fair (GC) a few weeks ago.

I bought a couple of pairs of cord jeans at one in Australia Fair last year for gardening and they are excellent. They fit and wash well. Didn't even bother trying them on at that price!

It's not *that* cheap in the UK either - only for picture frames and tealights and other tat you don't really need (if I sound bitter it's cos I am - I went there today and managed to spend £40 on 'bits' and they didn't even have the thing I'd gone in for!)

And you know what - Klippan sofa plain £175 - $229 in Ikea Perth. Sounds like good odds to me!

Re: Discount Shops

Ikea furniture is shite, and then some (the worst sofa, mattress and dining table that I have ever bought).

Some Ikea stuff is more expensive, some cheaper.

Re: Discount Shops

The Reject Shop for general household stuff.
Fantastic Furniture for cheap , erm, furniture.
Lowes for cheap clothes.
Trade Secret for discount 'brand' clothes and some small household stuff.
Bi-Lo for cheap food (its a subsidiary of Coles)
