It seems everyone gets a quote and then a final invoice is given once all is packed up. I'm very curious to know if the quote & final bill remained the same or if there was more often than not an increase. In particular this is for shared containers.

We want to prepare for what maybe the inevitable. And are the shipping companies honest and give the reduction in price when amount shipped is less than originally thought.

Our shippers are coming next Fri, so can also let you know. With our quotes, Pickfords estimated we had 325 cubic feet and PSS 415 cubic feet. This was for exactly the same goods!
We went with PSS as their quote was much better value per cubic foot, and would rather have a higher quote and get money back, rather than a quote that is too low.

In 4 moves, I've never had to pay more than the quote. (All four times with Crown).

They did try and make me pay for garbage removal once

Hi there - we went with John Mason's International. There were no price changes, all went to plan - and very pleased with the service received. No Breakages either! The only additional cost involved - which everyone has to pay this end, is the Customs / quarantine charge which is about Au$250.

Best of luck with your shipping!

Hello again.
They came and packed yesterday, container came and was loaded today and we received the invoice in the post for the same price we were quoted back in May! Obviously there will be costs at the other end but I won't know those until my stuff gets there - due in Adelaide port 03.11.2006.
Good luck with your move when it comes. We used DAP and the service so far has been excellent. 6 blokes packing yesterday and 3 today-very good service!

Hi there, any chance of letting us know how much they quoted? We've packed everything ourselves, only taking 1 double & 1 single bed and mattresses andI've calculated that we'll need 600 cu ft. Just been quoted £2258 by Excess. PSS coming tomorrow. Will let you know how it goes.

The quote we received was the price we paid.
Just beware though, this will not include any fee's the other end. i.e. If your goods need cleaning in Australia because you didn't have enough time to do it in your country!

Our container was delayed getting here (4 months!) and the shipping company gave us (only) £100 compensation. The container sat in Rotterdam for 30 days and then went via the Americas and the Pananma Canal, South Pacific, New Zealand, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and finally Freemantle.

We went with John Masons and our final bill was less than the quote.

We ended up ditching a lot of things that were originally on the quote. When we came to pack we got our ruthless heads on and did endless tip runs, ebay, charity and boot sales

I'm confused now. We have been sorting our stuff for some months now and having spent approx £150 on boxes and tape now have a rather large stack of 115 boxes. All numbered, a printed inventory, the works. Well, we've just had PSS come round to give us a quote. Nice bloke, lived in Brisbane and had lots of useful info about the area. Good so far. However, he has advised us that unless PSS personally pack our stuff ALL of it WILL be opened by customs and then we are liable for the time that that takes, at $80/15 mins AND THEN, PSS will charge us for the time to re-pack it all. Are they taking the PSS or what? Are they REALLY going to come round, UNPACK all 115 boxes and then RE-PACK them? Anyone out there packed it all themselves?

Cheers

Andy
