Did anyone take any uncoventional route to Oz?
Hi,
On our way to Melbourne..we'd like to see Dubai and Hong Kong.
Does anyone know whether this route exists/financially viable?
What stops did any of you make to Oz? (besides the obvious Singapore or Bangkok)?

When we go, (when we get the bloody visa) lol we are going to America (Disney Land) the to LA onto Auckland, New Zealand then to Sydney then Perth and finally onto Brisbane.
We didn't want to go the east way as we wanted to see some of the world before we settle in Aus.

qantas and BA both stop in hong kong... as thats where we are landing for 1h 30mins and isnt to expensive.. so perhaps go from Heathrow -> Dubai -> Hong Kong -> Sydney (or wherever) but then id have to say you must love flying

I went via New York, Las Vegas, Hawaii, and Sydney en route to Adelaide with 3 days stopovers in each.
Took a bit of organising but well worth it.

you have a few choices, but probably pricey?!
use either Emirates one-way to melbourne via dubai, and then do a side trip dubai-hong kong-dubai (sorry, dont know the airlines that do this route).
use cathay pacific to melbourne via hong kong, and then do a side trip hkg-dxb-hkg (again, sorry dont know the airlines any more).
or,
uk-dxb with emirates, then change airline, do dxb-hkg (with a different airline), and then the last leg hkg-mel on whichever airline is the cheapest.
sorry, not much help without a system. go to a travel agents. they will know who flies these routes now, and get the best possible price for you.

We did the following route
London - San Francisco (BA)
San Francisco - Las Vegas (American Airlines)
Las Vegas - LA (American Airlines)
LA - Brisbane (QANTAS)
Had a great time at all the locations and price wise it was less than 100 quid more than a direct flight via Singapore.
