Did anyone ship their own dog to Oz without using a specialist company?

Hi

We are moving to Geelong in October and are trying to establish if it is practical to arrange the shipping of our (very large) dog without the help of one of the many specialist firms out there.

I believe it is possible to bring your dog on the same flight as you travel out on, paying for his crated weight and a shipping premium. Anyone out there had any experience of this?

Any advice welcomed

Thanks
Gavin.

The airlines (ie BA and Qantas) won`t allow you to do it yourself. They only want you to go through a shipping agent. Bit of a con really, but.......

try Bill at skydogs.co.uk (crap website though) . He talks alot but knows his stuff. £1300 for our dog (border-collie x) to Perth in May (not long now)...
