Default Dh wants to take his Ford Mexico..

He has this 1973 Mark 1 Escort in the garage, its his pride and joy and will not be parted from her.

How do you get these over there, can it just go in the container with the rest of our stuff? Would you need to pay import duty like other cars, its not road worthy yet, but does have all the required wheels etc.

Lastly, he just loves going to car shows, where the men basically go and brag about their engines and such over a beer or 4, are they popular in Oz too.

We are thinking about Brisbane so if anyone can help I'd be eternally grateful

Hi mm,
See the attached link - it gives you all the customs info - I think it can work out quite expensive
http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=4371
and I think the car can go in your container with your other goods but bear in mind the whole thing has to be spotless, even the engine need cleaning!!

Better tell him to start practicing his burnouts - these are very popular in Australia !!

Motorheads (erm, not the band with Lemmy in it) are very popular over here, he'll have loads of fun.

cheers

Hehe.

But then, on the other hand, the speed limits are so strictly enforced over here, he'll find himself driving at a stately 108KPH like everyone else.

Not too worried about the speeding tbh, doubt it will ever make it out of the garage, you should see the state of it, work in progress he calls it.

More worried about him mixing with petrol heads, although he does a have very sensible head on his shoulders, but he may be easily led astray
