we have an outstanding dept of £10000 in the uk, will this affect my application.

Debt and Credit ratings etc have nothing at all to do with immigration, it also won’t effect your Credit Report in Oz.

It should not effect your visa, when you arrive in oz you get a clean slate.
It might cost you a bit to transfer funds back home to cover your monthly repayments though. Some people prefare to pay off any debts before applying for the visa.

It's better to pay everything off and not go over there and worry if they are going to find you.
If they do and you havent paid your debts, you will be giving them money that you will need at a really hard point in your life.
