dependant spouse tax offset

Having just found out about this via this mornings paper, can anyone confirm if the 2k+ offset just reduces your taxable salary by $2k meaning a saving of a few hundred, or it ends up as a $2k rebate?

Re: dependant spouse tax offset

You get it as a tax rebate. Luckliy for us the cut to it is for spouses aged under 40, so there is an advantage at last of being an old git. :D

Its a nice little limp sum back that we look forward to each year and it comes back alonmg with any other tax rebate you are due
