Dentist rec in Sydney and any idea of costs?
Hi all,
I had a lovely old massive filling fall out at lunchtime and I've been overdue to go the a dentist anyway. Can anyone recommend a dentist either in Sutherland area or the CBD?
And does anyone have any idea how much a filling costs? Shouldn't be any root canal or anything involved (says she praying to whatever god will listen!)? I have visions/nightmares of getting a four figure bill...
thanks!

If you have private health insurance get a dentist off their list of recommended ones - it will be cheaper.

Fillings if they are large and involve more than 2 sides of the tooth can be up to $600, but usually around $350. I'm with health.com and get 65% of that back up to $1000 per year.
Nick Hocking in the CBD is excellent for extractions, implants and veneers. He is on Elizabeth Street. He also teaches at the Uni, and is very gentle and personable. I now have a different dentist in Pymble, (which is much closer to where I live,) who specialises in nervous patients- for my OH and DD mainly, as I have had to have so much work done I do it all without sedation, even for extractions, implants and root canals.

Thanks all! I've signed up for insurance, now to find a dentist. The first one i called does 9-5, Mon-Fri so that's not much good!
I'll check out your dentist in Elizabeth St, thanks Caroline!

Hope you're not in too much pain If you're counting on getting a rebate from your private health insurer it might pay to check your policy for exclusion periods, ie the amount of time you need to hold the policy before being eligible for rebates. Good luck!

I used to go to the one above the Soul Patterson chemist in Sutho - near the St George Bank. As dentists go...they were OK and defo cheaper than the one I went to recently in Townsville.
Oooohh the pain...of the bill!

These sound expensive. I paid $190 for a filling in a regional location in South Australia. I asked my friend who is a dentist in Perth and he said that was about the going rate. I actually had 3 so cost me $570, but then got 85% back through insurance thankfully.
