Default Declining a job offer in Australia after acceptance

I have 2 job offers in hand at the moment. I signed and accepted the first offer(sent the soft copy) thinking that I wouldnt get any other offer soon(this is a contract job for one year, which can be extended), but fortunately (or unfortunately) I got another offer which pays better, and gives me better exposure(this is a permanent position with a company)

I intend to go for the second one, but I would like to know if there are any implications in not joining for an accepted offer (a govt agency ). Could you guys please let me know your opinions..Thanks

I would guess that you are only contracting your sevices to a government agency and not anything material. Contractors come and go all the time in government jobs therefore I wouldnt worry too much about it. They will just get another person in to do the job.

Good luck

If the second job is permanent & better paid, what's the problem? People accept jobs & then withdraw all the time.
Good luck

Thanks guys :-) .. i know i am not doing any breach of contract, but i was just worried of being the reason for wasting time and efforts of someone else.. and making another person probably lose an opportunity.. but i think i will take a decision here that I feel is the best for me.

God, absolutely you should! It is very commendable that you are considering others but you have to look after numero uno!
