I know ths is going to be controversial but we spent a few days there several years ago & thought it was a complete craphole. Same goes for Redcliffe.

Hi, we've been here in Oz since the end of Feb this year. We were looking at 'D Bay' (as they call it here) and our rellies here told us to avoid it like the plague. Seemingly the area has a very bad name. We still had a look around and there are some lovely new areas there though and we were still very tempted to buy. We are renting at Kippa-Ring until the end of the month. We tried to buy a house on the peninsula but found that what we were after was out of our price range. We eventually bought a house in Kallangur which is still fairly nearby to the sea. The area is just past North Lakes and Mango Hill. North Lakes is the booming place at the mo. I personally don't like North Lakes because it's to much like legoland and a bit too snobby for my liking. That is only my personal opinion though and it is a beautiful area for people that like everything brand new. Wishing you the best of luck when you do decide and try to ask as many questions as possible to the locals. If you need more info' I can try to find out for you.

We spent a night in Margate Beach, Redcliffe last week. Like it down on the beach front some nice houses, but the houses on the estate looked very cramped together.

I agree that 'Deceptive' Bay is quite a rough area, have checked out some properties there, and it is not all to my taste to be honest. Redcliffe however, is not that bad - it's had quite a bit of money spent on it recently and I think this area is going to take off. There are some luxury apartments being built and, there are some very expensive properties there too. I wouldn't dismiss Redcliffe to readily. I know its had a reputation in the past for being 'DeadCliffe' but that is changing, and it's well worth a look. :)

We too have been looking at Deception Bay, but friends of our live in Woody Point and have said the same thing, it's a little down trodden.

They have advised us on the surrounding areas - Margate, Scarborough, Woody Point, Mango Hill etc.

We were originally looking at Deception Bay as the property prices were well in our price range. Not having been to Oz before, once we get there, Deception Bay may be right up our street! :D

Oh, also, another friend of our say Narangba is very nice, although slightly more inland.

Hope this helps.

Melissa :)

Hiya Debbie, Here and loving it although I have to admit in the first few weeks I sometimes thought what the hell have we done :o We have already been to a meet up here at Margate and met some fab peeps from here. When are we going to see you all again ?
I hope I haven't upset anyone here as I was just giving my own opinion. We have our rellies living in Mango Hill, Murramba Downs, Kallangur and Sunshine Coast all lovely and different areas. We have just come back from trying to fish on the pier at Margate and then to the Belvedere Hotel for a drink or seven. :o :D

Lived in D'bay for 7 months nice estate but we are not new estate people, so have moved on now to up above Petrie as that is the only place we found house we liked and we have always been more country than beach people. Moreton Downs school D'Baywas nice and smallish school.

Redcliffe also ok in my opinion but it depends what you want in life after first few months of thinking both places dead we found the hot spots... you can't get moved in Belviedere on a Sat/Sun night often can't get a meal booking.

Like has already been said prices still affordable in both D'Bay and Redcliffe as they are just taking off lots of new estates going up and prices at both places starting to rise. Also Redcliffe sea front area starting to go up market slowly but surely, there's been big changes in both areas in just the 7 months we were there. Houses around Scarborough can now go for a million dollars up over as all the boaties live there who can afford mariner life.

Still think D'bay is good place to start if you want to be North of Brisbane as lot's of affordable housing round about that hasn't been priced up as much as the South Side at D'Bay, Redcliffe, Caboolture, Kallangur, Petrie, Cashmere, Joyner, Lawnton, Burpengary, and Elimbah. Bribie Island, Donnie Brook, Brighton, Sandgate, Shorncliffe, Scarborough, Margate, Woody Point and Clontarf also worth a look if you want to be next to sea.

We did go down to Redlands Bay and Cleveland as every one raved on about it and couldn't see what all the fuss was about, but like everything a matter of personnal taste.
