As for mail, if you are getting someone elses mail for their debt, how does it hassle you? just throw it in the bin, it can't damgage your credit rating.

At my old place I used to always get letters for the previous tennants debts, I simply put "not at this address" I then recieved more, so made a complaint to the ombudsman, never recieved any again.

Not my debt, not my problem... why worry about it. Only the person who owns the debt will have their credit rating dammaged, no one else.

I used to get letters from dept collection agencies because of the former owner of my house. The were addressed to 'the occupier' so I opened them. I used to then phone the companies and give the address of the former owner of my house! The agencies were always a pleasure to deal with.

The "It's not my fault I have massive credit card debts, I really need to go on holiday and buy a brand new car" types that get my goat.

After a month or so of returning mail to sender we got all the to 'the owner' or 'the occupier' mail regarding the debts. Most of them were not even glued down, anyone could read them, I reckon the neighbours did, they knew all about it too.

Thats a ridiculous thing to say!No one "makes"you loan money. They did it because the OP asked!:ohmy:You have choices don't you?No one escorts you to the bank with a gun to your head!

Firstly, Police don't have anything to do with civil debt. So, if Police were there it was nothing to do with debt. If a debt was from a court judgement then the Sheriffs will get involved. They do a similar job to the court bailiffs in the UK.

Most of these debt collection firms are full of sh!t. Everything that comes out of their mouth is nothing more than rubbish intended to scare people into paying when there isn't a legal obligation.

Actually, half the time they did it becuase it is a product they are trying to sell. Like selling credit cards in shopping centres etc.

Ever receive the "You've been pre-apprved for out fantastic new credit card..." letter from your bank in the mail?

Obviously people are asking to go into debt and it's not the manipulative sales techniques...

Perhaps I am incredibly lucky but I have NEVER been made to take out a credit card I did not want or take on a loan I could not afford to pay back.

Letters through the post about new credit cards or loan offers have gone into the bin with no repercussions and on the many occasions I have been asked do I want a store card a reply of "no thank you" has always done the trick.

.

Yup, received a few. They all got ripped up and thrown out, even when I've been totally broke. If you can't afford it you don't get it is the way I was brought up and my kids are learning the same lesson.

Only thing that is worth borrowing money over is a mortgage. Anything else can be saved for.

Just because a 'money grabbing bank or loan shark' offers you money, doesn't mean you take it. If you do, you pay it back. It's very very simple. (imo anyway)

Give me a break please!Yes actually I have had those letters asking me if I want a loan of X amount of £'s,and surprise surprise,I tore it up and put it in the recycling.I have said this before on similar threads. If you live within your means, you don't need a credit card, bank loan ect.A morgage is different, but even thats a choice, you can rent.I recently brought myself a nice little car than, shock horror,I saved for!Anyone remember that word "saving"?I guess there must be alot of weak willed gullible people out there!Thank god I'm not one of them!:D
