The government prints the money. It's not backed by gold and the Fiat currency is essentially not worth the paper it's printed on. Have a read up about fractional reserve banking and see just how much of a con it all is.

I agree 100% - lots of comments been flying around here for a few days but few realize what really goes on.

right now i have no debts,if i sell up i still have council tax to pay until i emigrate now do you get it

That's very short sighted. The government bailed it out because letting it 'go under' would have had much worse impacts with regard to job loss and damage to the economy.

Would you have let it 'go under' and make 140,000 people jobless?
