There are masses of them. 3 have a pretty good reputation.
I use Orange cos I still have mine from when I lived there, very good coverage. O2 are also pretty good

I used an O2 one in UK and Ireland over Christmas - no complaints. Generally very good 4G coverage. Can't comment on the mainland however...

I had an O2 one for my ipad last year while I was there and the coverage was really good, only very remote spots dropped out - halfway up a Welsh mountain for instance! ;)

I still use prepaid data SIM cards. Have tried a few over the year and decided that 3 is the best one, it lasts for months and is only about £20. There is no coverage where I live because it is countryside and nobody has coverage here, but that is fine because I am using wifi anyway. I fhave found the UK has free public wifi in loads of places anyway, certainly the town centres.

Wifi coverage in the UK is great isn't it. Wish Australia would get on board to the same level.

Yes it is excellent, you could in fact quite easily manage without a data sim. It is nice to have just in case though and I think the only place I am using it is in the car when I am on road trips. (And Mr BS driving!)

Last time I was in Europe (2013) I found it impossible to get a SIM for my iPad which worked in every country - as soon as you crossed a national border (Italy to Switzerland to France to Belgium to UK) the card would start roaming. I relied on the free unlimited wifi available in every hotel we stayed in.
