Darwin Bound

My daughter is moving to Darwin.

She is toying with the idea of shipping her VW Golf (55 plate) to Australia. Would she be better to sell the Golf and buy in Austrlia. If shipping the car is a better option, will the car need to be modified here in Britain or should it be done in Australia

If buy there is prefered option, what make or model should she purchase there (she is a novice when it comes to buying a car). Who should she buy from and what age of car is a safe option.

Employment package includes shipping. Will her TV work in Australia?

Too many questions but this is just the start- she needs a lot of help. I hope I have come to the right place:fingerscrossed:

Cars are expensive in Darwin however i doubt it would work out any cheaper bringing a car over .
TV here works , ours do though we did have to buy a set top box to watch normal tv as we are in a smart area and everthign is cabled under the estate.
Most things will work here but our new small fridge we bought in the Uk and used as a beer fridge died within 6 months of being in Darwin. However our american style fridge freezer bought in Germany is still going strong and we have been here 2 years now.

Re: Darwin Bound

I have no idea what year a "55 plate" refers to (been out here too long) but in general I would expect that the cost of importing a used Golf to Australia would not be worth it.

On Carsales today there are 16 Golfs for sale in Darwin with prices ranging from $14,000 for a 2003 to $24,000 for a 2010. Bear in mind that Darwin is a small town (~130,000) stuck far away from any major centre, so prices are always likely to be higher than elsewhere in Australia - if her employment package will ship the car over then it may be worthwhile bringing it, otherwise probably not.
