Default CVs for builders question!

Hi all

Just about to start on Robs CV he is a self employed plasterer and never had to have a CV in his life!!

Just wondering he has worked for LOADS of companies in the past do I list them all as he basically did the same for each!! He has run his own business for the last 5 years do you think a builders CV is set out any different to say an IT specialist!! Should I concentrate more on what he is experienced at!!

Any tips will be good

Cheers

HI there, my husband is a sheet metal worker and I have done a cv for him, although he has never needed one before. I work for a builder and friends that are coming to Oz with us her hubby is a brikkie, so I know where you coming from on the CV front!!

I would say to concentrate on listing all of his skills and then maybe just list all the companies he has worked for with the dates or if there are loads and loads, list the date to and from and then list the companies he has worked for in the time period!!??

I hope that helps a little, it is a nightmare when they are self employed because as you say they work for so many people sometimes only a week here and there!!

If he is self employed just list his skills, some tools he uses etc, then just put a few of the larger companies he's done work for. That's what I've done on hubby's CV.

I also joined www.seek.com.au and typed it all on there, you can keep it private so that employers can't see it and print it off for personal use.

Hi All,

I've just completed husbands CV. What a headache. He's a self employed carpenter and has worked for 25 years in the business!!AAHHHHHHHHHH.
Basically what I did was list the whole apprenticeship and then did a heading with the year, say, 2000, and listed underneath all the companies he worked for etc in that year filling in months, say from Jan to Mar.....insert company name.... Very hard thing to do especially when you go back a few years it's hard to remember. All you can do is your best. Good luck!!!!
