Default Curry on the Coast?

I've come across a few posts about problems getting a curry in Oz, and now am wondering of the chances on The Gold Coast?

I'm hoping as it's very comercial, there will be a few, but haven't a clue really.

Myself and family ARE willing to change our rituals and stuff when in Oz, make new ones etc, but EVERY Saturday night for a good while now has been 'Curry Night'

Maybe it'll have to become 'dodgy sausage' night ....lol

Sadly, I have never had a curry like you get in the UK in OZ. Then again I've never had decent sausages or black pudding here either

Can only wish you luck in your quest and be prepared to learn how to make your own good curries

Its not that hard. A good starting point is a litle book you can buy at most supermarkets here for around $4.
Published under the title "Family Circle Mini Cookbooks: classic essential curries"

Has everything from indian to thai to malay to burmese

A good beginners book. You can progess to better more specialist ones that cost more later.

If you can't find it write to: murdoch books (yeh rupert again)
Lot 210 Reliance Drv,

Good onya and you are most welcome. I also enjoy cooking as you can tailor things to your own liking once you get the hang of it.
By the way NEVER buy local Australian mussels! They are so teeny tiny it's NOT funny!. Always buy New Zealand GreenLipped ones! They cost about $4 a kilo (enough to feed 2) at woolworths /safeways, but you may have to ask for them(often kept out back frozen but they defrost easily)

I have a scrummy chili mussel recipe. if you want it let me know

There are a few curry houses on the gold coast also in Brisbane but have to be honest and say the ones that i have had when over there are not a patch on the UK ones. One good thing though is that there is plenty of asian food which is plenty spicy. Sod it i'm going for a take away now

LOL, sorry I know talk of a curry can have that effect.

Ok, well it looks like we might find one then, but not to hope for much

Pitty as we have a real good one locally, UK top 10 winner (so the advert states ?!!?) but it is nice.

As Kiwichild says I'll have to get a book or two, throw on the apron, and get in the kitchen with a box of spices and see how we do.

You can take a recipe anywhere!

There are a few scattered around, but you won't find them comparable to those of the UK. However, there are so many fantastic takeaways and restaurants in australia that I don't think you'll consider it a major hardship. Change Indian night to Thai night... one of my favourite cuisines, and Aus has some great Thai restaurants amongst many other diverse treats.

Embrace andEnjoy!

Nr me on the Sunshine Coast we are fortunate to have 2 Indian Restaurants that are really good. They are owned by the same person and are pretty similar to Uk ones but with a smaller selection. One is on Aerodrome Road Maroochydore and they do a buffet all-u-eat night for around $20. It is a bargain!! The other is called Curry Bowl and is in Kawan near the shopping world. I rad of a new one opening this week as wel.

I must admit we have only had 3 currys in over a year now as there are so many other yummy restaurants around too.
