please help, we are near the end of our very long migration process and dont understand how to get our money into oz by the simplest and most cost effective route............. :o

we have no money to transfer until our house sale all goes through, (fingers crossed), we are in the process of opening an oz bank account..........

but how do we get our £ from our house sale to oz??? (expecting around 70k)

i presume a cheque is not very sensible from a $ point of view???

help guys!!! but pls answer in simple terms, cause im lost!!

If you do a search on currency or exchange you should find loads of threads.

You can use your bank or a currency broker.

Check out the total you'll end up with in A$'s having taken into account any fees charged.

Brokers you could use are www.tranzfers.com, www.hifx.co.uk, www.currencysolutions.co.uk

My sister went with The Common Wealth Bank. You send a cheque to their office in London and then either transfer the lot if you want or just transfer a certain amount. Apparantly, this way you can get the best exchange rate.

We think that we'll do the same. She was also able to organise her mortgage with them when she was out there as well.
There's loads of them in Australia and also sis said that they don't charge you for withdrawing your money. (Most banks charge you out there!)

Hope this helps. www.migrantbanking.co.uk is the link to their website.

Paula :)
