Rellies in Oz have been requested to post bond. They have been to localCBA and the manager doesn't know what to do. The letter we got doesn't say where to deposit the bond!! No account number or anything. Need answers as have to ring tonite 11.30 so they can go to the bank tomorrow armed with the info. People, we did some advise!!

Don't panic!!
The most important thing is that your rellies take along the letter they have been sent from DIMIA, 100 points of ID, I believe this will be driving licence, and passport ( assuming they are citizens if not more proof may be needed) they will also have to pay $200 to open the accounts ( assuming there are 2 of you). Our assurors did all of the above and luckily the manager of the local CBA had experience with dealing with this. It is not really your rellies responsibilty to know how to deal with the banking side of things as this should be done by the bank manager. Is there any way your rellies can try a different branch? Or failing that ask the manager to perhaps telephone another manager for advice! Our Assuror used CBA Boxhill Melbourne, if that is any help. Siobhan Hanrahan has offered a lot of advice on this subject before, and sounds very knowledgeable so may be worth doing a search on her name. Let us know what happens Sarah |
The bank my cousin went to also was unsure of the procedure - it took a couple of days of them ringing other branches to sort out but they did it eventually!!
Hopefully our paperwork re the bond is now back with our case officer who at this very moment is dealing with our file (well if she is an early riser of course!) Good Luck I have copied the page that Siobhan posted a few weeks ago - I emailed it to my cousin and I think it was useful for her - I`ll see if I can find it. SJ |
OK Found it!!!
Right - Your relatives should get a copy of the letter asking for the bond to be paid into a Commonwealth of Australia bank. This is what they need to do:- . 1. This letter needs to be shown at the bank for lodging the bond. Take the letter to the nearest Commonwealth Bank of Australia. They need to open a Term Deposit Account for each of the named people on the letter 2. The person lodging the money needs 100 point ID to make the lodgement. Do you understand the 100 point ID thingy?? Something to do with take passport or other ID - just take loads!! The cost of doing this will be $200 for 2 names as apparantly we have to have separate accounts. These fees are none refundable. 3. They then need to keep a copy of the 2 documents that the bank give them and post the originals back to us as proof of lodgement. Make sure the bank give them the originals as DIMIA wont accept copies and other people have had to kick up a fuss at the Bank to get originals! 4. Once we receive the originals we will have originals posted back to Adelaide - seems a bit silly. (By the way I got my assurer to post the stuff back to DIMIA but stressed that they write a note with file reference number and write our file reference number at the bottom of the envelope along with the name of our case officer. Seems silly to chance posting it all twice! Sounds complicated - hope it isn`t too bad in reality. if all goes well - shouldn`t take too long. Hope this helps See you Sarah J |
