What tips have people got for knocking the quotes down??

Just get a few quotes and let crown know the cheapest and get them to match it. Remember when you deal with crown it is crown all the way through.

just got the quote through from Crown - seems massively expensive - £5.6k as they are saying that we will need a 40ft container. Does this seem about right (price for the shipping not the amount in the container tho i reckon that we are on the cusp of the 20footer!)? What have everyone else been quoted? Have asked a couple of other companies for quotes.

I used Crown when I moved to Singapore and they were excellent but I wasnt paying for i back then!:D

Learned something interesting today: Crown also own Grace. Apparently, Crown bought them a few years ago, but decided to keep the name "Grace".

Have you negotiated the price and asked them what is taking you over the 20fter?? I found them receptive to negotiation and also reducing our items down to a price we found amicably acceptable.

Sorry to jump in but this saves me from starting a new thread ..... how long before you go did you get people in for quotes? We are not looking to go until October but no idea if there is a long time between getting people round to do quotes, negotiating between company's on price and then arranging for them to collect everything and ship. Can someone help me re timescales?

Thanks in advance, Nic

we got initial quotes in in January, then when we had thinned out about 8weeks before, got them back in as we had a clearer idea of what was going and all the sorting out of rubbish, tip stuff, amazon, ebay and car boot stuff had gone.

Re: Crown Removals

Hi guys just wanted to update on this. We shipped our stuff from Scotland to Brisbane with Crown. As I posted previously we found them excellent at the home end. Very efficient, pleasant and helpful. Our container left the UK on the 19th April. It landed in Brisbane on the 25th May. It was delivered today. The hold up at this end was relating to customs checking and clearing the container. The couple who delivered and unpacked it today were great (husband & wife actually) The only complaint we have is that on numerous occasions the Brisbane office said they would phone us and failed to. All in all a great service.
