Credit references - are they needed?
Hi,
I've searched a few threads and there seems to be conflicting advice as to whether we should take credit references to Oz with us? What's the general consensus?
Also - someone has suggested a drivers license is all we'll need..is this our own license from the UK (in which case mine didn't involve taking any theory test) or do we need to sit a similar test in Oz?

They (the financial institutions) rely on Australian credit history more than overseas credit history. To open any account you need 100 points of id, drivers licence, passport, evidence of address(ie utility bills sent to your address), birth certificate, credit card/bank a/c statements etc. Any documentation that can prove who you are.
You need to get a state licence within 3 months of arriving to stay. In some states they will do a swap but in other states you may have to resit there. Check the transport dept website in the state where you are intending to settle for info.

An overseas credit history is virtually irrelevant. You can open a new account with a passport with a recent entry stamp (100 points) after thatyou can make up the 100 points from the items The Bloke mentions.
