I think I will stick to the one we have now, with the FlightCentre vouchers you can then chose whatever you want at a time thats suitable to you. As you said, not much use having FF points if you can only fly when its unsuitable! I laughed at the $55,000 for a fryingpan , I like to think that I get more than just a frying pan & I have to spend the money somehow anyway. May as well be on a CC that I then pay off (so no interest), so they end up paying me $X worth of goods for the privledge .

FWIW, this is what I just got for my recent trip to LA each-way.
points Cabin 7,166
bonus Status 40
I then also got 800 points (I think) for each car rental; three days with Thrifty, one week with Budget.

Re: Credit cards with air miles??
Thanks everyone for your replies.
Like you BP i normally look for the free cads but we are looking to offset so keeping everything in our account for as long as possible is the way forward. Then at the end of the month we'll do a Mrs DB and pay it all off, so i figured i may as well get whopping points for something i value very much, holidays
Its also worth noting that ff points arn't just for when you fly they are for lots of other things, i've even seen one linked to a leccy company, and also your purchases on credit cards.
Anya, i'm off to study the table thanks
i think!

Also, FWIW, I get a couple of emails from Qantas a week with special FF offers; be it increased points with a booking, or this weeks I think was 10,000 points less needed for a booking.
