Default Credit card

Wife and I are both doctors. Reasonable salary. 4 year business visa. Have UK Savings. Why, oh why can't we get an Aus credit card? Anyone any ideas? Tried ANZ, HSBC, Westpac, Virgin - all insist that in order to get a credit card then we must have residency?
Trouble is we need a credit card to salary package. Anyone in a similar situation? Anyone got any ideas?... please....
Cheers

Apply online.
Tick the 'I am an Australian Resident?' box (well, you do live here, dont you?)
No-one will check your passport or visa.

How frustrating, both hubby and I got ours when we went to Common Wealth Bank to activate our accounts. We opened them in London before leaving.

However, we did have house sale funds being transferred. Can't believe that with salary coming in they won't see you right.

How odd

Good luck

Guess again, you usually have to have documents verified by JP etc, before they give you the card.

We're here on a 457 Visa too and have just been accepted for a card with National - applied online and again they only ask if you are an 'Australian Resident' doesnt mention 'permanent'!

Good luck!

Hi Matt,

We're in the same boat but too honest to tick the wrong box! However as I am Oz citizen we found a way round it. Bert can be a second cardholder on the same cc as me, and it doesn't matter if he is a resident or not. So that's what we did with NAB and are in the processing of moving everything over to ANZ (Waiting for reply on cc).

We are on a 457. Hubbie on an excellent wage but still could only get a $10,000 limit with ANZ. he had to send them his contract of employment before they would give one to him.

Permanent RESIDENT: temporary RESIDENT

Spot the common word <g>

If you *live* in Australia you are by common definition an Australian resident, IMO.
