Your attitude is exactly what is wrong. You see white people as naturally having higher standards than 'darkies' therefore its ok for Indians to be racist as they are less 'evolved' than higher beings i.e. White Westerners.
I find your view to be extraordinarily racist.

Discrimination is more prevalent in India than anywhere else in the world.... Male vs female; light skin vs dark skin; discrimination based on caste, religion, region, language;
In fact there are laws openly supporting discrimination in India
It has everything to do with politics and trying to gain votes.

In times past this was for certain. These days it is far more conceled and far from clear to what extent society holds certain views as racism as most would claim they are not.
Still feel there are strong under currents out there which could turn into a reaction giving the opportunity to vent pent up emotions in a nationalist backlash.

I would add depends where in the UK. Lived in Perth a few decades ago with my former Malaysian Chinese partner and her difference was far more an issue here than in London, Twenty plus years ago few Asians were visible....Today ofcourse it is different ...sometimes a little envious how easy it appears to be..

Last time we were expanding the team, we did not hire any non-Anglos because none of them had the requisite language skills. Mumbling in English does not cut it.
We were though at pains to point out that the team is multi-cultural.
Every team I have worked on in Australia has been multi-cultural - far more so that the City of London which I found far more elitist.

Coming back to the original thread racism in Australia is no different from racism in other developed western countries - whether it is USA, UK, Germany, Sweden etc. At least the majority of western countries have legislation in place to outlaw such practices.
If you want to see open, direct discrimination - visit China as a black or brown skinned person; or indeed, as has been pointed out - India.

That may be the case in Australia - but not in the UK. The UK courts give a very wide definition of race and it includes nationality. That is why for example a caucasian English national has successfully sued a caucasian Scottish national for racial discrimination.

Re: Covert Racism! shhhhhhh
I suspect that English Law codifies what is legal and what is illegal discrimination and that discrimination by race is amongst those forms of discrimination which are illegal.
I further suspect, from what I read here, that the English find it hard to discriminate between discrimination and racial discrimination.
