Costs car/house etc

Can someone give me an idea of the costs involved in buying a house (in Victoria), ie first time buyer's grant, stamp duty etc.

Also, what costs do you incur when you buy a car - is it just the equivalent of our tax disc?

Also, have you come across any other taxes or costs in Oz that we don't have in the UK?

Many thanks

I've heard that as a rough guide, you should budget around 5-7% of the purchase price to cover fees and charges.

Stamp duty
Building/pest inspection
Valuation fees
Lender's fees
Lenders mortgage insurance (LMI)
Solicitor fees
Insurances
Connection fees – phone/gas/electricity
Rates
