Cost of living - Melbourne/Sydney
I realize that these numbers could be all over place but would appreciate it if people would please provide rough monthly expenses in Sydney/Melbourne for the following:
- food and sundries (i.e. toothpaste, shampoo, etc.) for a family of 4
- monthly petrol costs
- car insurance (annual)
- utilities - gas/electricity/water
Posting my salary really doesn't mean much as I have certain other expenses, and therefore trying to gauge these expenses individually is more useful.
Any statistics would be really appreciated.

Nearer to brisbane but costs would be the same anyway.
family of 4 kids are 12 and 9
Food weekly $250 give or take $20
Petrol car 1 around 2 tanks a week so about $110 but this if for a tradesman.
Car 2, work, kids, kids, kids you know driving around, $45 ish
Electricity, just paid for 90 days, no pool was $494 but had AC on for probably 15 days of that.
Car insurance is around the $480 for car worth $13,000
