Cost Of Living Comparison
We are currently in the middle of the immigration process (me and the wife - no kids) and are trying to work out the comparitive day-to-day living. We are looking to either live in Sunbury just outside Melbourne or Bangor just outside Sydney. What we are trying to guage is what income we need annually to cover all our living expenses - no mortgage and no car loan) i.e. Gas, phone, electric, water, cable, house insurance, car insurance, petrol, food, beer etc. etc.
Has anybody else bothered doing this financial research before they immigrated and what kind of results did you come up with ???
I'm trying to persuade the wife that I wont need to work but she's having none of it !!!!!!

What areas would you recommend?
We'll be looking at migrating in 2005 and have had a look at different areas but not really decided.
We'll be renting rather than buying and am tempted to go for somewhere bayside, south east of the CBD, or maybe Williamstown. Also tempted to get a SouthBank apartment for 6 months as theres only the 2 of us (at the moment).
Any advice?

Re: Cost Of Living Comparison
For us its a case of "better the devil you know" - dont you just love Kylie !!!
I am sure there are better places than Sunbury in the Melbourne area - I'm always open to suggestions - but we havent been to them and dont know about them. We are looking for a comfortable (not huge) 3 bed detached bungalow for about $350-$400k, with reasonable garden - so nothing flash. Close to golf course and if its near the coast then all the better. Easy access to Melbourne would be a plus for work (for the wife!), but with a "resonable" cost of living.
Not too much to ask then !!!!!
The only thing that is scaring me is that I wont find any work !!!!
