Re: Cost of living - $50k or $200k??
thought I would put up my bills list
Rent = $550 a week, 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom, 2 lounges, games room, bar, swimming pool, 15 mins from perth city centre. nice area.
Food = for 2 of us, we dont really shop at the supermarket, because its cheaper to go to the local butcher and get a family pack for $100 which is 15kg of meat and also same with fruit and veg and seafood, cheaper to buy at local shops. there are lots of these places in perth but most shop at coles, ect, no idea why. just ask your neighbours where they get there meat and veg. but i would say $150 a week tops and thats eating good food.
fuel = is about $120 a week but we do work a 40 mins drive and have 2 cars. and fill up on a tuesday or wed because they put the price up before weekend.
gas = got the bill in 2 days ago $88 worked out to about $1.20 a day
electricity = $342 for 62 days thats about $5 a day, and we also have a pool pump on for 4hrs a day which will take up most of that. and computers on 24/7. and heating/aircon.
phone = $27 a month line rental and calls on top, $103 in total for this month
internet = $100 a month and thats unlimited and unthrottled pulled off 420 gig last month lol.
alchohol = usually hardy's shiraz which is $22 for 3 litres and about $40 for a crate of beer.
Smokes = about $12 for 25 marlboro
forgot water = think it was $190 for 60,000 litres last bill
think thats pretty much it, overall its cheaper than what we were spending in scotland in a 2bedroom 1 bathroom end of terrace house. we have noticed since we have been here that food has got lots more expensive, but we just found the local veg, meat and seafood market and shop there now, place is always packed with people lol. we go to coles for things like water, juice.

They seem to do that each year, just before the schools send the kids on the weeks camp down to the Snow fields. It was great for kitting out our one last year. Where else can you buy such cold weather clothes in QLD

Thanks everyone for your inputs
Oi - we have lentils, pulses (different varieties);beans (kidney, black, one-eyed...etc) everyday - it's packed with nutrition.....
Yeah, have kissed my dreams of a sweet retirement and "comfortable life" being a lady of leisure in Oz goodbye....thanks to having to take over cooking (Indian cuisine) and cleaning - am fine with it (I think) as I won't be in paid employment anymore(actually am planning to ask hubby for $50k as a trainee cook & cleaner in the Indie household - so that's his COL through the roof)

Wouldn't say groceries have doubled, and if they have, then this poster has marched on and absorbed the cost...as for time frames people refer to, remember - prices do increase over time...compare 1970 with 1980 and then 1990..5 years is half that..things do go up - ask ya parents..
As it happens I think prices are not cheap here for groceries, but the UK was not as cheap as I had been led to believe either - until not so long ago inflation was an issue for both nations....
