I don't think they do. When you are going through customs at Perth airport, there is a sign saying NO CORDLESS PHONES, this is from all countries, not just UK. For some reason - don't know why - they won't let any into the country. If you are putting it on a container and it is not checked by customs, you can take a chance and see if it works.

Yes they do.
But like sue said you should not bring a phone in. I actually think this applies to all phones .. fixed and cordless.

When I was packing up to come to Australia, I can remember seeing on the list .. what things are banned, what you can't bring in
besides things like coral and animal parts, there was phones too... which I thought was odd at the time.
I brought my phone in.. I actually brought mine in, in my suitcase... I wanted a phone set when I got here :) (it was a long range cordless phone)

I think this rule is because of Telstra (the Aussie phone network) ... phones have got to be telstra approved or something. Plus phones are cheaper outside Australia.

Bring it with you.. if they find it.. plead ignorance that's all. It's not as if it's a well known law.

P.s I've even bought my last phone from America (off Ebay).. miles cheaper. had it posted to me here, but I asked the bloke who I bought it off to put electrical goods on the parcel... and not Phone! .. I wasn't lying now was I :)

cheers

P.S... just got this is off the Custom site:

are prohibited, as are cordless telephones unless they comply with Australian technical standards and are approved for use in Australia by the Department of Communications.

so yes, it's only cordless (I thought it was fixed handsets too)... I remember seeing phones on the list when I came here, but thought *** them
But yes they do work... I brought my cordless into Australia, and bought my second one from America.
