The contrast of the red soil against the colour of the sea near Broome, WA. Magical.

Coolest things I've seen :
the great barrier reef
stumbling across a wild cassowary in the forests in the atherton tablelands...very exciting and very pretty scary too !!
following a dingo for a few km's up a dry river bed, in the rainforest in SE Qld. (then having a beer or two back at the camp).

Taking the kids out fishing for the first time and seeing a sea turtle just 2 feet away. Then while watching for him to bob up again a pod of dolphins just swam by, litterally right under our eyes, 2 feet away and then lept out of the water. Got so excited neary screamed, can't describe the excitment. Magic.

Certainly the COOLEST thing I've seen recently was 6 inches of hailstones on Tuesday afternoon but I think I much prefer kayaking with a dugong just off Moreton Island and the wallabies and koalas in my garden.

Here's my list so far:
1. My daughter's first time at the beach. She's only 3 so she thought she was moving to a "beach party", that's all she got out of our explanations.
2. A bird just walking around the indoor food cart at the Harbourside Mall in Sydney. This was during our first few days so we though it was pretty cool.
3. The underwater tunnel at the Sydney Aquarium.
4. The Taronga Zoo. The bird show was pretty cool. This was also the kids first trip to a zoo.
5. Going to an ice hockey game in Newcastle. Very different from the arenas in Canada!
6. The kids at Whitewater World. They thought it was the best place in the whole world. The thought that it was probably snowing in Canada made it even better
We're going to see the Great Barrier Reef in December, so I'm sure that'll be at the top of the list soon!

Re: Coolest thing you have seen in Australia?
only been here 5 weeks so far but (and in no particular order)
1 - driving down to the gold coast 1 hour after landing and seeing a huge flock of birds flying alongside us and realising that they were cockatiels and not seagulls/starlings
2 - seeing loads of brightly coloured birds on a daily basis
3 - the bats
4 - wild dolphins swimming past my daughter and another expats daughter
5 - BBQs on the beach for breakfast
6 - the views from a recent walk up a mountain
7 - the drive to take the kids to school
and those are the ones that pop straight into my head and long may i have many more "coolest" things
