I am not really one to get involved in the missing foods from the UK debate but I do need pork sausage meat for my sausage rolls and chestnut stuffing. (it is Christmas after all!) I have traipsed from butcher to butcher but no luck so today was my last chance of finding one in Melbourne without travelling all the way out to the British butcher in dandenon (sp) and low and behold I have found a butcher who will do it for you.

If anyone is interested he is
South Melbourne Meats, Corner Shop 32, Coventry St entrance to Sth Melb Market.

He also does a good pork sausage and came second to the British Butcher (as above)

Also ordered my whole leg of ham for cooking but that did take some explaining as to what I wanted. I didn't want it cooked just cured so that I could do it myself. After much discussion I think I have ordered the right thing but only time will tell.

Also lots of places taking orders for fresh Turkeys - free range and organic.

Vanessa, pretty sure our local Coles does sausage meat, if anyone cant get to your butcher it may be worth asking at the supermarket as well

Coles does do sausage meat but it is not pork. Not sure what it is as the ingredients just state 'Meat' and it is a very strange colour, more like taramasalata!

Haha, thats explains it then, cos sausage meat to me, should look like sausages. Not surprisingly then, the sausage meat in Coles looks just like the sausages that you buy in Coles .

I could be wrong but I think pork sausage meat comes from a pig.
