Converting 457 -> PR

My company (through an agency) has agreed to change my visa from a 457 to PR. The paperwork is being dealt with by an agent. Can anyone advise what the process involves?

Are medicals still reqiuired?
Is pregnancy likely to be an issue?
Are there any restrictions on travel?
Is age a major issue (both 35)

Are there any other issues i should be aware of?

Thanks

- YES

- YES

- DEPENDS. You must advise DIMA of any travel during processing and if your 457 is close to expiry, you may need a Bridging Visa B.

Is age a major issue (both 35)
- NO, age not an issue for employer nomination provided main applicant is under 45.

Are there any other issues i should be aware of?
- YES. Read the requirements in Migration Booklet 5.

Also, advise DIMA of travel within Oz (Sydney - Perth)?

It may delay your visa as pregnant women don't normally do medicals, and everything has to wait until baby is born.

Also - if your baby is born before your PR visa is granted, it won't be an Australian citizen and will therefore have to have a medical. Health problems for the baby could mean PR refusal and a one-way flight home for whole family.

DIMA then have to be persuaded to waive the age bar for ENS/RSMS. Not impossible in many cases, but not always possible either, and never easy.

Once you turn 45 the "fall-back" options of points tested migration, skilled sponsored, STNI and Skill Matching, are completely closed. No waiver here.
