We're planning to move to Australia in around 6 months. The plan is to travel around for a few months before deciding where to settle. We're not even sure yet if it'll be in the east or west.

This potentially causes us problems with shipping our household contents. We can't ship anything until we know where we'll be living. Does anybody know of a reputable shipping company that will store our belongings in the UK until we settle......or if we're missing a simpler solution, let us know.

We used a company called Atlantis based in Birmingham and Leeds. We were pleased with them.They are only a small company and it makes me wonder if they would have the facilities of the larger company's which would have to store your belongings for that length of time. But you could do a serch and find quite a few shipping companies on here.

I have booked Excess International Movers for a similar reason - I am travelling for 10 weeks en route to Oz. They can put stuff into storage for 4 weeks for free, and then the shipment can take 6-10 weeks to arrive, and can go into storage the other side if necessary.

I tasked 3 shipping companies with packing and storing our stuff in the UK for up to 6 months, then shipping and storing in Sydney and to give a breakdown of the quote for each segment. In actual fact its cheaper to store in Oz than the UK but by getting quotes broken down you can negotiate as required to get the best overall deal.
All the prices initially varied greatly over individual sections but after negotiations the overall totals were virtually the same! So at the end its up to gut feelings about the best one to choose.
