Default Contact at Mobil Altona plant, Melbourne

Hi

Anyone working/know someone at the above plant who could give my husband a contact name to get in touch with re job opportunities? Seems past jobs have been recruited through Hays but emails to them are being ignored, annoyingly!

Still in UK but looking to move out towards the end of the year, possibly the reason for lack of response from agencies.

Thanks for any help.

Judy

My recommendation is that you get up early in the UK and ring them yourselves. Job hunting emails are routinely ignored, use the phone instead.

Thanks for your reply.

My husband did phone Hays but didn't really get anywhere. Will try Mobil direct instead...see if he can get past the receptionist anyway !

I used to work for the other big refiner in Victoria....we took on lots of redundant ex Mobil employees.

The scale of operations in Altona has been shrinking gradually so I would not bank on them recruiting.

Is your husband an operator? Try the other place in Geelong...

Yes he's on the operations side of things. Are you talking about the Shell refinery in Corio? We know someone who works there and he says they are downsizing aswell so doesn't see much of a future for it.

Thanks for your reply.

I would say Corio is a better option.

Refinery capacity in Aus is shrinking but Corio is the biggest supplier for Vic and SA round to Perth (where Kwinana takes over)

What about Esso at Longford, East of Melbourne for the Bass Strait rigs? We are moving there in the next few months from Aberdeen.

the reserves in the Bass Strait (oil, not sure about gas) is running low.

Thanks for that info. Have you secured a job there prior to leaving?

We're from Aberdeen too. Not sure of our exact date for moving over but probably towards the end of the year.
