The confusing area of bundled internet?

Ok we have the house, we have electricity, we have gas, we have water. Trying to find a good quality internet and phone package that does not break the bank?
We phoned telstra earlier, after being on hold three times between convos with a prat, we finally got to the bit where they ask if we want anything else, we said no can we please set up a direcr debit and the phone went dead:frown:
Anyone got a good line of info on this please,or other providers that are less ignorant?

+1 for that.

Then as a broadband customer you can add a heavy use cap mobile phone plan for $30 per month, no contract.

It runs on the Optus network I think. I don't currently use it so I can't really comment, thinking about it for when my contract with 3 finally ends...I can't put up with their issues any more! :frown:

It's $600 for general stuff + $400 for TPG to TPG - and no it doesn't include international calls, I thought only 3 and Virgin did?

We've used iinet for a long time and we're happy with the customer service as well as the internet service.

A lot of people would steer clear of Telstra as they can be a nightmare to deal with, but I think you've already experienced that;).

I've seen those ads for Vivid wireless/mobile - have you looked at that?

There are black holes for internet coverage around Perth, so some areas only have dial-up:eek: There are other threads on BE, and loads more on the whirlpool forum.

i get $450 credit with my sim only with vodafone to use as i please for $35

have the quota app on my iphone so it keeps both mine and the mrs vodafone bill up to date so we dont go over ( which would slaughter anyone when using internationally )

I'm with iinet - they are a Perth based outfit and we seem to get good service here. They are not the cheapest but I have had no problems with them and their customer service is good.

http://www.phonecardcity.com.au/Gene...?CountryID=225

get one of these cards, i use chitchat

10 dollars gets 2,500 minute to uk landline, and its a local call here to connect. so i dial it as part of my plan on mobikle, enter the pin and dial the number in uk as usual for the price of a local call!!

As a couple of others have said...iiNet. We've had an account with them for nearly 4 years and never had a problem.

We've stuck with Telstra as well, since in our new build they have a monopoly for all the telcom crap for the first few years. :frown:

I was sceptical about TPG but I've ended up with them and am really happy with the offering. I've got the bundled home phone+unlimited ADSL2+ for $60, an extra $5 a month gives you unlimited local calls too.

Re: The confusing area of bundled internet?

Iinet are the god of ISPs. I only went with TPG because my company will pay upto $60pm of my Internet costs. Because the homephone / unlimited Internet item appears as a single line on the invoice at 59.99 I get the whole lot paid for. Having said that, no complaints about TPG.

Re: The confusing area of bundled internet?

For an ISP internode is the Geeks choice of ISP followed by IINet.

For mobile Telstra has the best remote coverage of all the providers. Vodafone have had a lot of bad press as they have overloaded their network. TPG is cheap and you get what you pay for.

What does that mean though?

Since it was installed I never have a need to communicate with them, it was the same with iinet, the service was reliable. Optus on the other hand, paid more, but was on the phone all the time for a slanging match with tech support.

IvanM Mar 5th 2011 7:12 pm

Re: The confusing area of bundled internet?

Optus and Telstra service is awful. TPG service years ago was tripe. With TPG you get high download quotas and you share with users who like those quotas. Basically you will not get the same throughput and latency as you would with Internode and IINet. If you have not noticed and service has been fine then the price is right. You get what you pay for.

There are people on this forum though who have been TPG subscribers for years, and they say they haven't noticed any deterioration in their service performance as TPG's pricing has become more & more aggressive. You pay more for Optus, you get less IME...so 'you get what you pay for' doesn't necessarily hold true. No arguments that iinet's customer service is the best out there, well that I've experienced anyway.

IvanM Mar 5th 2011 7:30 pm

Re: The confusing area of bundled internet?

As I say if you do not notice the difference then you do not need the extra performance you pay for with a better ISP. To see what people are saying about their ISPs have a look here.

http://whirlpool.net.au/survey/2009/

The performance of TPG has not deteriotated, it has always been below the best performers.

bc, 1. do you get free modem with this $59 plan.
2. do you need to pay Telstra for opening the phone line
3. What are the installation costs like

Re: The confusing area of bundled internet?

Called up TPG today, they said they may take upto 25 working days to activate the connection. Thats appalling:frown:
5 days to setup intallation forms/feasiblity checks
10-20 days to setup home phone, opening line and activation

Same with Iinet. Thats why Royal service of Bigpond rocks, they set me up within a week last time.

Part of the reason they have to cover themselves with these appalling long timescales if because they might be forced to wait for Telstra to do something...and Telstra can take as long as it likes. Personally I think these other companies deserve a fair go over the evil Telstra. :)

My TPG install was completed in about 10 days from sign up - I had issues with the line in my building which they were then fairly proactive in resolving.

They are the most economic - $60 pm for unlimited. The only other providers which gives comparable package is Optus $60pm for 100 gig naked dsl. Even iinet is expensive as they charge $70. I think I have to go with TPG only  I wont get free wireless router though

i went with iinet a couple of years ago, supplied my own modem and they had the rest up and running in 2 days. their customer service is second to none :thumbup:

Re: The confusing area of bundled internet?

This one looks good $65 and no connection fee. ADSL 2+ isn't metioned though.. What difference does ADSL 2+ makes?

Optus - Up to 120GB Broadband

moneypenny20 Mar 7th 2011 7:43 pm

Re: The confusing area of bundled internet?

Basically as with everything, you get what you pay for. That may seem like a good deal but you'd be dealing with Optus. The last one you liked the look of may look like a good deal but you're dealing with Bigpond. I wouldn't go near either of them with a barge pole.
