Default Confused about education in Victoria

Wonder if anyone can help. We are hoping to settle in Melbourne from June onwards this year along with our little boy. He was born in June 2001 and will obviously be four years old this year. Although we know that he won't start school this year, as he would be doing in the UK, what sort of pre-school facilities is he eligible to attend? Looking at various websites Kindergarten looks to be similar as to where he is currently attending. Also, what year will he actually start school? Finally, should we be thinking about putting his name down (provisionally) for somewhere before we leave the UK as we have areas in Melbourne in mind where we would possibly settle and if so, does anyone have any links to Kindergartens in Melbourne?
Thanks for any help.
