Confused
:confused:I have been granted the skilled migrant visa and hoping to come to aussie in June.I am getting so many feedback from differnt parties saying it is difficult to find accomodation unless you are employed in Aussie. Is it the case what option do I have?

Re: Confused
It depends. I was able to rent and move to an apartment within first week of my arrival. The agent simply asked me to submit required rental bond and two week rent in advance. He didn't ask me anything about whether I do job or my past rental history .... but probably because it was Brisbane :-).

The rental market is competitive but mot people find accommodation within a short space of time. Landlords care about two things; ability to pay and that the property will be looked after. So if you don't have a job, you will have to clearly demonstrate your ability to pay.

Hoping to settle in Melbourne.
They have pretty much all found accomodation within the first couple of weeks without any problems at all. If you are staying in furnished accomodation on arrival, a letter of reference from the owner helps as well. |
Re: Confused
The apartment rental market in Melbourne is competitive right now. Agents will want to see you have the income to make rental payments. Without steady employment you will unfortunately not be near the top of their approval list, even if you are able to offer a higher bond or additional months rental in advance. All will want a minimum lease signing of 12 months.
I am assuming you will be looking for work when you get to Melbourne so you won't want to commit to a particular suburb until you know where you will be working or which suburb suits your needs. Although it's relatively expensive, the best option short term is a furnished apartment with someone like Quest, Medina or Punt Hill. All have multiple locations so you will be able find one close to a suburb you like the sound of and be to get around the city easily. This is exactly what we did until our furniture arrived in the container (2.5 months after we arrived) then we took an unfurnished lease in a Bayside suburb. |
