If you were to declare it to customs as being new then you'd have to pay the duty on it. Personally I'd get a laptop bag and stick it in there. Wouldn't have thought they're bothered on such a small item.

And when you get fed up with any threads go to "My Profile" and unsubscribe from them.

Ohhhh  They DO care, thats not a small enough purchase for them to ignore.

We bought an all-in-one printer/scanner in Singapore and had to pay GST on it in customs in Oz.

Unless the first thing you want to do when arriving here is get done for smuggling

True - but it's more common to be travelling with a laptop in day to day life than it is with a printer :D

Especially a printer that is gift-wrapped with a big bow on the top and the receipt stapled on the outside of the box ;)

Its very complex

1. they catch you.
2. they frog march you to the GST NEON NON DECLARE counter
3. they weigh computer
4. they weigh you
5. they then lift you upside down and say YOU TITE ASS, you got it cheap in SLINGAPOOOR so pay ya dues
6. they then feed you to crocs, and smash your Lappy.

Really Rather Reasonable !

Yes, but they will also see on your visa you are not a business traveller, you are an emigrant. And they work for Customs, its their job to know every ruse in the book. So if we have thought of sticking a brand new lappy in an old laptop bag, so will they.

And don't even think of stuffing 4Kg of Marajuana in there, they are wise to that too :D

BTW, here's where your new laptop will end up if you don't declare it: http://www.rossauction.com.au/auctio...view/20072005c
