im a reflexologist and aromatherapist and i emailed the atms got loverly e mail back, saying as long as you have a valid qualification [not forgery] you are able to practice. as Australia does not have a registration of natural therapists. Its only if you want to join an association and then you will have to meet their criteria. you will then need all your course curriculum and course class room hrs.
there is also a Reflexology association www.refleology.org.au
and www.naturecare.com.au
hope this helps Debra

I too am a practising aromatherapist and reflexologist but I have been told something entirely different to the above. I've been practising for nearly ten years - I trained with Shirley Price ICA in aromatherapy and the IIR in reflexology. In the UK I am currently registered with the IFA and the IIR.
When we decided to emigrate, I contacted the IFA and the IIR in Oz. The IFA said I could legally practise here if I was registered with them, and to do this I had to provide evidence of qualification, and a valid Australian Senior first aid certificate. Upon registration, I had to obtain adequate professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover.
The IIR are not so accommodating. Despite their advertising promoting them as the only reflexology organisation that permits you to practise anywhere in the world without re-training, I was told that the qualification I had was not necessarily acceptable in Oz. I would have to apply to the RAA (reflexology association of Australia) for recognition of prior learning, and be assessed. I might be required to sit another examination, and I would almost certainly be required to undergo practical examination again. I would have to pay for this assessment too! Only when I satisfied them that I was up to scratch would they register me, and then with the adequate insurance and first aid certification, I could legally practise.
Overall, I am not too unhappy with this. The standards in Australia are very high and they are keen on all therapists presenting a highly professional image. This is good because it enhances the reputation of the therapies and encourages the orthodoxy to take us seriously. It also protects the public against those therapists who are not up to scratch - and they certainly exist.
Anyone coming to Oz with a good training behind them will probably do well because of the popularity of alternative therapies in general, but it really isn't as simple as just *having a valid qualification*, I'm afraid. At least, if you want to practise professionally and not just treat immediate friends and family. Professional therapists in Oz have to be registered, and have to be affiliated to a governing body.
HTH.
