Comparable London salary in Sydney
Hello,
My partner and I are looking to move to Sydney early next year. I will be moving over on a skilled workers migration visa and she will also be travelling on that visa. In London I earn a salary of £54,000 and the salary I’ve been offered in Sydney is $95,000. Realistically on that amount am I going to be able to live a similar sort of live style? What would you say £54,000 roughly equates to in Sydney taking cost of living into consideration?

No, $95k will not go as far as £54k. It will come up light, you would want a dollar equivalent of at least 2x the £ and probably more.
One way of looking at it, is that your £54k is not too far of twice the national average salary (of say £28k-ish) whereas the Australian salary is nowhere near twice the national average (of about $67k).
Still if that is what the market rate is for your occupation, then you might have to accept it. Perhaps do some research on that so you know you are not being taken advantage of.

If your partner is also working then you may be, but on 95k on your own then no.

You want at least $115,000 to feel as comfortable.

You have to weigh up any other benefits
At the moment in the UK I contribute 8% to pension. My company is transferring me, offering me $11,000 less then I believe I should be getting BUT is actually putting in $12,000 a year into my SUPER. So it works out I am better off!
See what your company is offering for pension.

It used to be a minimum of 9% Super contribution but its actually going up in increments.
Don't forget the difference between your salary being INC or EXC of Super as that makes a BIG difference. But on the whole I agree with others, at the current exchange I would use a 2.5 - 3 x UK salary to have the same level of comfort. Australia is very expensive!!

The only way to compare is your relative purchasing power - how long you have to work to afford something. This is different for all of us

According to respective government stats...The latest averages are thus.... Including bonus or Overtime..... 475 pounds per week UK = GBP 24,700 PA (44,560 AUD at todays rates)
http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/rel/lms/la...-earnings.html
Australia, Including Bonus or Overtime... 1485.70 = AUD...77,220 PA (42,792 GBP at todays rates)
http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/[email protected]?OpenDocument
I dont think goods and services and any other costs or purchases are 70-80 pct more expensive in Aus
God save Australias minimum wage of Aud 622.70 per week, and the Federal award system, which is probably the main driver for the Australias much higher average wage.
BTW to illustrate the minimums... daughter no 1, just landed a job as a experienced Barista (Coffee maker to the UK philistines) 50k per annum plus tips.
