Company Registrations in Australia
Just wondered if anyone knew how to go about looking up to see if a prospective company name had already been registered in Australia?

I copied the info below to my "useful" file when the question was asked before. Haven't tried any of the links myself, but hopefully they're useful for you.

(to do company searches like at UK Companies House)
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission regulates companies here. Try http://www.asic.gov.au/asic/asic.nsf.
Baycorp (Credit Bureau) also keeps Company info and offers Inquiries (using the ASIC database). Try here: http://www.baycorp.com.au/products_...1&fUserTypeID=1
ASIC is the governing body in Australia for companies. It is federal (Australia wide), not state by state as are many government departments.
You can also open an account with CITEC and do company searches. You just have to have your account in credit (credit cards accepted) to do searches.
(both are equivalents to UK Companies House. Provide company info)
