Re: Coming to Adelaide?

I can't comment on the rest of you post OP, but I will question the statement;

Adelaide has one of the highest murder rates in the world of any city. This is not hype, just fact. This violence goes hand in hand with the severe drug problem Adelaide has and is exacerbated by the road rage.

I will just say Rio has a far higher murder rate per capita than any other city in the World - FACT. I'm pretty sure that many cities in the USA, ie Chicago have very high rates too.

You may mean that Adelaide has the highest murder rate per capita in Australia?? If so, then please alter your post.

Re: Coming to Adelaide?

Adelaide is a generally pretty boring place to live, period.

As it is, we're considering moving to kangaroo island ( a pristine and beautiful wildlife haven)
What kind of excitement were you looking for??

Kangaroo island is fantastic for wildlife (and tourists) but little else. Have you checked out the job situation there too, there are limited options.

Re: Coming to Adelaide?

Whilst I agree with some of the points you have raised in your post, but certainly not the last one, Adelaide is far from boring!! But then if you are looking for the "City that never sleeps" type environment I can see where you are coming from.

We love Adelaide, never seen any trouble, never had any! The driving is horrific, and it drives me MENTAL that they drive here so badly, but that is probably the only thing that really annoys me!!

For all you rose tinted wearers, in my eyes, Adelaide has good and bad points as does every other city in Oz and UK and infact worldwide, I think it depends what you have come from and what you are expecting which evaluates if you like it here or not!! We come from the South East of England nice little quiet town, not much bother, medium sized house, blah blah blah and we love it!!

To me if you feel as strong as you do here then why dont you move off to try somewhere else??? I know for sure I would!!

In reply to the post from 'Fly Away', rather than just guessing at things yourself, why don't you actually do some research to support your theories? I did. If you don't, you just seem ignorant.

For the point about Adelaide and murder rates I have found this from the Federal Government. Sorry it's a little old,but it's the most recent one I could find:http://www.aic.gov.au/research/homicide/otherdocs.html

As I said in the other Adelaide post...If you want a high murder rate you may want to take a little trip to Baltimore. Or Detroit. Or Toronto even.

For the OP; If you think you're cold in Adelaide then I would hate to think what you would do in February in Canada! I'm from Southern Ontario, which has one of the more temperate climates in Canada and we still get our weeks of -40

Hi tyke :)...I've just had a look on the side of my very expensive...but delicious...box of Lancashire Tea.
It was imported by:
Harrowgate Tea Pty Ltd
8 Holland Street
Northgate
Queensland 4013

No wonder it is this expensive in Perth  (Wonder there is a war of the roses going on between Yorkshire Tea and Lancashire Tea, last time I looked 'Harrowgate' was in Yorkshire  )

Totally agree!

Maximmm please read the link.

Edit - Just looked the figures up and according to the BBC website, Washington DC has the highest murder rate per capita in the World - 69.3 per 100,000. According to the above link, SA has 2.68 per 100,000. These are of course recorded figures in developed countries. Many countries do not record this information.

LOL. So I'll concede Rio is no longer murder capital!

Way I look at it is that not everyone is going to love a place just because someone else does!! But I think what got some annoyed with this post is the original poster writing things that are just not true!!

We love it here in Adelaide but like I said before there are things that if I could change I would and that would make it a better place!!

Good luck with the move and hope you finally find what you are looking for!!

Further than I thought!!

Harrowgate - (Harrogate) :lol::lol:

In fact Adelaide reminds me a little of Harrogate as you come into the CBD through the parklands.
Shipping is very expensive here - but due to the distances.

Back to the original post................................
I don't mind Adelaide, lived here over 7 years. What it lacks for me is balanced by other things.

This last winter was cold I thought though!

Sounds far more exciting than I need. Strange that the place never appears on the national news for the murders, drugs, etc etc. I've never been but I do know that there must be lots and lots of very happy people earning decent salaries and living damn good lives or you'd be on your own there.

Hope you find somewhere in the world you like.
