Default Colorbond fences around Estates

Why? It's bloody ugly. If it's a rule, why? If someone chose to do that, why?

Chief asked me the other day when we ventured down the hill and off to a new suburb we've never been to before. The map might have said "Here be dragons".

We actually get quite depressed when we visit these suburbs and am quite glad to leave them.

bit like legoland aren't they. almost identical houses with colorbond roofs and fences. My worst nightmare but for some these suburbs represent affordable housing. Each to their own.

So much of modern Australia leaves me cold. I also don't understand why people buy this shit. I don't understand the 'affordable' angle either. Some of these places surrounded by corrugated fencing are not exactly cheap. I will never understand why, in a country with so much liveable space, people choose to live like this.

They look like prison walls to me, you just see little coloured roofs peeking over the top - the gardens must seem very closed in What I do like are the noise barriers on free and highways. All the different pictures - they're cool!

Why do the estates need to be walled off anyway

'Route 1' mate as you'd call it. Bang on the money.

Indeed - we actually paid alot less money to NOT live in one. (We got luckly too admittedly).

I still want to know exactly why.

The limestone retaining walls some as high as 4m are so prevalent in the new suburbs and really brings the term legoland to the fore. They are topped with said colorbond fence to make it a real fortress prison

Case in point is Darch and Landsdale.

don't know why they do it, but it's happening here too with small estates of 20 houses or so, and looks ridiculous. One example - the main street of Port Elliot (SA) has recently had all the overhead powerlines trenched underground to improve aesthetics, a new land release with a frontage of about 200m appears and along with it a 6 foot tall beige fence.

I prefer the charm of the period homes with the lovely front veranda's/porch.

Quite fancy sitting in a rocking chair with a cold beer watching folks strolling by.

Me too, it's a shame I bought on an estate, although we do have a timber fence, well along two sides anyway and nothing on the third.

the redbacks love the colourbond fence as well when we had our rental sprayed there were loads of dead ones hanging on it.
