Cold feet - more like frozen!
Oh dear! We were looking forward to our new adventure down under. However, it seems that in reality things are going to be difficult there.
We have not as yet received our visa (police reports & meds stage - submitted). We were intending to head for Gold Coast area but I have lots of negative things about education and finding jobs etc - please can someone give me some positive feed back?
I want my kids to have a uni. education will that be so unaffordable (they are only small now)?
Come on - lets have some happy endings for a change!
Seriously Scared heading for QLD!!

When your kids get to uni age they can get a HECS loan to cover the uni costs. Its a loan thats paid back thru payroll when they begin earning.
Don't believe everthing you read here about oz education. Private schools are pretty affordable.....they start at about $2k a year i think. I have heard that some state schools can be pretty bad, but you get good and bad schools wherever you go.....
My wife is an aussie. She turned out fine

I went to school in Germany and Australia. Actually went to an australian public school and loved it. My grades improved from those in Geramny, where schools are more regimented. I found teachers in Australia to be really caring and I actually enjoye school! There are some very bad but also extremely good public schools. THe key is I think to ask anyone in the area. Expensive neighborhoods often have the better public schools.
the school I went to consistently had the top grades in the state (out of all schools, including private schools, and I loved the diversity at my school. Since graduating from university and getting my PhD in Australia, I have worked in Germany and the US, and I think that the Australian Universities are definitely comparable to anything I have seen overseas, and are very well respected. i really don't think you ahve anything to worry about. By the way-after graduating with honours in Australia I was offered PhD scholarships in York, Cambridge and Oxford, including the Sainsbury scholarship. I hope this helps.

My undergraduate degree was Biology, and then I specialized in biophysics. I can't wait to move back to Australia. One of the reasons is because I want my kids to grow up there and go to school in Australia. I think it's a really wonderful place to have a family and for kids to grow up. My parents initially moved there for the same reason and I am so glad they did. They actually went back to Germany with my younger brothers when I started University. I'm really glad was able to stay, and they are hoping to move back again eventually too. Good luck!

It is really nice to see some positive comments! At least you are an expert - you grew up there. My husband is a management Grad and we are hoping to go to the Gold Coast as he works in hospitality at the moment.
