I,m with Copykat and ellen, who needs Sanctimonious arseholes
sounding off about other peoples posts. it was a genuine question, And as far as I can see baliffs are the SCUM of the planet, how anyone could do that job and claim to have morals is a joke. I loved it when the Baliff got clamped while collecting fines from people with parking ticket offences ROFLMAO, the Baliff said to the clamper taking off the clamp "I suppose you are happy with yourself clamping people are ya" HAHAHAHA, |

All I am saying is we don't know the detail of individuals circumstances and should not make this out to be some horrific crime against us all. Most sensible people would see the abandonment of debt as a last resort and a misguided step to take in many cases as other options around bancruptcy, etc, I would suggest are far better course of action for lots of reasons. FYI I do not plan to do this myself, but having during my life been at both ends of the financial spectrum and currently somewhere in the middle I would not vilify someone for asking a serious question and taking a full sounding on all the possible options. |
in uk, i have to be earning over £16, 000 before "they" start taking student loan repayments, which is easy enough to do as a full time social worker, but a lot of my uni collegues are planning to work part time to avoid making any payments (and they are not looking at migrating), maybe i should do the same, but will it count in oz, surely i wouldn't have to pay it i were unemployed or worked part time?

Don't say I didn't warn you. Oh and by the way I will have paid off my student loan prior to departure. It is people that do runners from Debt that end up costing the honest people with increased insurance premiums etc..... Jo Not a do gooder just an honest person who will clear her debt before leaving the country |

I called this type of action - theft . At no point did i comment or moralise -either way- on what was being done nor on the person involved... cheers richard |

Like I say you will get caught probably when you least expect it just like what happened to my friend I am only warning you that the debt will haunt you! I have a lot more debt than 10 grand but at least I can hold my head high with it paid off before I go to oz its called taking responsibility for your actions |

Originally posted by james & bev sorry to be confusing, could be my misinterpretation of your words in some way. Your obviously a wonderfully well rounded liberal thinking person just making simple comment. yes and i'm sorry for being so petty as to ask you not to use me as some kind of springboard for one of your sanctamonious diatribes... cheers richard |

I have a speeding ticket that i didn't pay whilst i was in Oz, i don't live in the UK and i have no intention of ever going back to OZ. I had every intention of paying, but I lost the ticket and didn't knwo where to pay etc and then I had to go home. Do you think they're gonna track me down !?

Anyone defaulting on a student loan (eg emigrating with no intention of paying it back) is simply stealing that money from the UK taxpayer and IMO that should be treated as a criminal offence.
Having said that, student grants used to be much better - mine was enough to pay fees, accomodation etc and I could still have 6 pints of good strong beer a night. Cheers - Don |
Oh for gods sake, you were blatanly squandering tax payers money, with your bloody grant. Count yourself lucky mate, those of us who actually worked at Uni under the pathetic labour government now have 10 000s pounds worth of debt to pay off.
